Hair Care Treatment, Conditioning of Hair: Deep conditioning is done once a week. Massage the scalp with hot oil. Dip towel in hot water 3 to 4 times. Squeeze and wrap your head with it, in a turban-like manner. Repeat this three or four times. Then shampoo your hair. Rinse the hair with warm water.’ (Best is room temperature water.) For oily hair, boil the leaves of the lemon and apply to your hair. Sometimes tea-leaves water is also used. After applying the conditioning agent, rinse hair with warm water. Henna (Mehndi) is a good conditioner. For oily hair, use henna with amla powder. For dry hair, henna with olive oil is good. However, henna as a conditioner is to be used for half an hour to one hour. But henna as a ‘dye’ is used differently. Freshly made egg shampoo also strengthens the hair.
Conditioners are to hair what moisturisers are to skin. They lend lustre and body to hair. There are three types of conditioners:
1. Instant Conditioners:
They are temporary ‘hair body’ builders. They coat the hair with protein, etc., e.g., egg mixed with henna and applied.
2. Hair Body-building Conditioners:
These coat the hair and make it look lifted, e.g., beer rinse, tea rinse.
3. Corrective Conditioners:
These help to repair the ‘damage’ and relieve dryness, e.g., henna with olive oil or curds mixed with henna (to be used only in summer, when the weather is hot).
